01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

For a substantial meal, start with the keema curry made with chickpeas and plenty of vegetables. One visitor who came for lunch on a weekday said the vegetable keema was generous in size and mild in spice. The menu also includes curry with chickpeas and vegetables, lentil minestrone and a corned beef and spinach quiche, making it easy to choose a dish to build a meal around.

In the evening, there is also the option of a plate centred on side dishes. One regular, who often orders it, says they look forward to the variety of vegetables. Another diner noted that it can be ordered without rice or bread, making it a good choice when you want a generous serving of vegetables and protein. Other options include a hamburger steak topped with a fried egg and a potato gratin flavoured with white miso.

For a lighter bite, try cheese toast or quiche. Toast toppings include Kyoto seven-spice, green shiso genovese-style sauce and pepper. Sandwiches include an omelette-and-lettuce egg sandwich and a BLT with bacon, lettuce and tomato. One diner enjoyed toast, pasta and soup, too, suggesting that a smaller meal can be put together when that is all you need.

For dessert, choose crème brûlée served with house-made ice cream or a chocolate brownie generously studded with walnuts. One person who tried the crème brûlée said its light-textured surface and soft centre stood out.

Coffee beans are chosen from a selection of blends ranging from medium to extra-dark roasts, as well as a light-roast Colombian single-origin coffee. You can tailor an after-meal coffee to your taste, or opt for organic hojicha or matcha milk. Open Wednesday to Sunday from 15:00 to 22:30, Suzunari is set up for an evening meal, but also suits a break with just toast and a drink.
